J:”We’ll go get hot cocoa and then maybe to Holmes Harbor. Now would be a good time to go to the bathroom”<\/div>\n
F:”I think I’ll go empty my bladder”<\/div>\n
J:”Good Idea”<\/div>\n

F:”You’re driving too fast for a rural road. Where are we going?”<\/div>\n
J:”We are going to get hot cocoa first”<\/div>\n
F:”I’m just along for the ride. I like to go out and about.”<\/div>\n
(We park at Holmes Harbor, Hot cocoa and mocha’s in hand.)<\/div>\n
J:”I’m going to take a short walk on the beach. \u00a0Do you want to come with?”<\/div>\n
F:”No, I think I’ll just sit here and enjoy the view.”<\/div>\n

On the beach, I savor my mocha and my privacy.<\/em><\/div>\n
Small waves lap rhythmically.<\/em><\/div>\n
The beach is littered with exoskeletons of deceased bivalves.<\/em><\/div>\n
My eye catches a dull geometric shape, frosted gray.<\/em><\/div>\n
My forefinger and thumb worry its soft boundaries,<\/em><\/div>\n
probing for some reminder of its original edge,<\/em><\/div>\n
but, \u00a0saltwater, sand, and time have worn the shard<\/em><\/div>\n
to a comfortable, if diminished, patina.<\/em><\/div>\n
