A two+ hour bus ride from Santiago brought me here.   <\/p>\n

I haven’t been in a bus station in America for several years but the Santiago station itself looks like what I remember of Greyhound stations in America only spotless inside and out.  It’s also not in a run down part of town but right across the street from the offices of a major tv or radio station and the “Bombeiros de Santiago” i.e. The fire department.<\/p>\n

The buses look like modern coaches, and don’t emit black smoke. There were several idling in the semi enclosed garage but I didn’t smell any exhaust fumes while I waited for mine.<\/p>\n

It’s not all perfect. The tickets are sold and the information desk is on floor 1, two flights up from ground level. There are escalators but one only goes down and the other is broken altogether.   But the buses run on time and aren’t over crowded. <\/p>\n

\nTonight’s alburgue is a step above some of the others with an almost commercial kitchen for use by the pilgrims.  Notice the pistole resting above the pizza oven.  Not sure what that is all about and not going to ask.<\/p>\n
